Reading Plus shows reading comprehension problem , while most school assessments do not
Reading Plus (R) Assessment shows reading comprehension problem when traditional assessments make the problem.
Reading Plus has 3 big advantages:
1- The passages are 800 words long — the same as the Common Core Assessments or Florida State Assessments — even Reading Running Records tend to use passages that are only 150 words long
2- The text is written to mirror the Common Core Standards and Common Core Assessments
3- The questions require the same Critical Thinking Skills as the Common Core Assessments or Florida State Assessments
Matthew’s reading fluency was close to grade level and his reading comprehension was far below grade level, but the school did not know that.
Matthews reading fluency was at the 9th grade level.
Matthew had a 2.6 Grade Point Average.
Therefore the principal said Matthew did not qualify for Special Education or an Individualized Education Plan
We had come to the Child Study Team well prepared. It turned out Matthew averaged a 53 on the tests he took. What brought his grade point average up was his class participation and his turning in all his assignments and projects on time.
We also knew what his reading comprehension level was — but we chose to just …
ask the psychologist to assess the student’s reading comprehension. After some debate, the principal consented.
The psychologist confirmed his reading fluency, how well Matthew read out loud, to be at the 9th grade level.
She found his reading comprehension to be at the 4th grade level.
She asked us what we had found. Using Reading Plus (R) Software, we had discovered that Matthew’s Reading Comprehension was at the Second Grade level.
We had helped him with a combination of the 3D Learner Program (R) and Reading Plus and he had made two year gains
Make sure when you get an assessment find one that mirrors the Common Core Assessments or Florida State Assessments
