Small Changes Can Improve SAT Scores
Some students will be taking the SAT this week.
Your child is likely to be nervous. They know the importance of SAT Scores. They also know they want to do everything to Improve SAT Scores.
Too often we hear parents say things like, “Do not be nervous” or “don’t rush through the test”. As encouraging as this sounds, it can have a negative effect on your student.
We encourage parents to keep the conversation positive and don’t focus on the results.
If your child has done a lot of work to improve SAT Scores, you may want to say, “We are really proud of your hard work”.
This might be a good morning for you to get up early with your teen and go for a walk or do some other active activity inside.
Get your child to the test early, encourage them to use relaxations exercises.
If your child is on ADHD Medication, find out from their doctor, when is the best time to give the medication. Some medications may take 2 hours to fully kick in. If your child is taking the test at 8 am, then they should take the medication at 6 am. This may require them getting up early just to take the medication. It is often worth it to improve SAT Scores.
Here are some tips to help your student before and during the test:
- Get everything ready with them the night before the test.
- Make sure your child gets the best possible nights sleep the day before the test.
- Make sure your child has a solid breakfast and include some protein.
- Pack some protein for them to take during breaks (bars, nuts, cheese, water).
- Bring a sweater
Get to the test site a half hour before the test. Let your child go for a 20 minute walk. Exercise is really good for them. They should take some deep breaths to relax.
Make sure your child is aware of their accommodations and that they use them. Extra time could and should be used to pace themselves and to check their work.
