Dyslexia and Visual Processing issues occur in 72% of the students we see with dyslexia. We often see students who are visual learners with dyslexia and visual processing and/or attention challenges
We do not agree when the International Dyslexia Association says:
Ignoring the visual processing issues in a student with dyslexia can make reading far more difficult. Some of the issues a student might face include:
- Skipping words and/or lines when reading
- Getting headaches when reading
- Reading slowly
- Not recognizing words previously seen and not mastered
Consider Stephen. He had dyslexia, but had read on the International Dyslexia sight that dyslexia was a language based problem and not related to visual processing. As part of our assessment, we discovered that he had a significant visual processing problem. The good news is we identified and improved his skills. The video below shows his tracking before and after treatment.
The good news is that when we address both the learning and visual processing issues, the student can:
- Better understand what he or she reads
- Have far less eye strain
- Read more efficiently and effectively
- Start to love reading
Identifying and Addressing Visual Processing Issues
At 3D Learner, we believe it is critical to identify and address visual processing issues. We this this with an integrated approach that includes:
Our no cost Success Assessment screens for a learning difference, and for attention and visual processing issues. Make sure you do the assessment with your child
We incorporate the Visagraph shown above in both our Focus Assessment and our Comprehensive Assessment.
We address the visual processing issue using vision software, Brain Gym (R) Exercises and Reading Plus (R).
We have been told by an optometrist we respect, that we cut the visual training time in half, by including more movement and Reading Plus software.
