Seeking a Dyslexia Tutor in Parkland – There May Be Better Option
No one had ever mentioned that her son was a visual learner. Jennifer looked for a dyslexia tutor in Parkland. She did not find one that was different from what she had had already tried. Then Jennifer got a list of three Boca Raton dyslexia tutors from a Boca Raton Psychologist. Mom then asked for any other options — the psychologist recommended 3D Learner.
Jennifer called the three dyslexia tutors and heard a similar tale:
– Helping a dyslexic child get back to grade level is a l to 3 year project
– Each one was going to use a phonics-based program — and her daughter had not done well with phonics
– Each one left Jennifer with that nagging feeling that there must be something better
Jennifer called us and we started with several questions:
– Does your child remember places visited, even from years ago:
– Does your child learn best when she sees and experiences information?
– Is your child a lot smarter than the results would indicate?
This described her daughter to a T. For the first time, Jennifer realized her child was a visual learner. Nor did she realize that 65% of the students are visual learners, and probably 80 to 90% of the smart struggling students are visual learners — and that most students with dyslexia are visual learners.
We then asked:
– Does your child skip words and lines when reading?
She was not sure
– Does your child lose focus when things are boring?
Jennifer then asked, what does all this mean
Most dyslexia tutors want a child to learn in a logical, sequential and tortuously slow way.
At 3D Learner, we help kids who are visual learners and who often have a combination of attention and/or eye-teaming challenges.
Rather than use a phonics-based approach, we use a hands-on approach to teach vocabulary and word recognition skills. Then we teach our students how to visualize what the child reads
Then we address the relevant attention and eye-teaming issues.
Mom brought her daughter to us and the results were very positive. Her daughter got back to grade level in 4 months, was in honors classes by middle school and was in the top 10 percent in high school.
Whether you are looking for a Dyslexia Tutor in Parkland, a Dyslexia Tutor in Boca Raton or a Dyslexia Tutor elsewhere, first consider whether your child learns differently and has an attention and/or eye teaming issue
It turns out that many smart and even gifted children are diagnosed with dyslexia each year, when the students are what we would call a visual learner or a right-brain learner. We tried one dyslexia treatment after another, without the desired result.
When we attended a transition meeting to high school, we were told our dyslexic daughter was not college material. Mira Halpert, who was both the mother and an educator with a Masters in Education from the University of Michigan, became a mom on a mission. Mira developed the 3D Learner Program (R). We lay a solid foundation and then work on phonics.
With the 3D Learner Program, our daughter was able to improve her reading comprehension 4.2 grade levels in 7 months, to earn her Masters in Education from the University of Florida and she is now teaching highly gifted students in Chapel Hill.
Since 1997, we have been helping Gifted students, smart struggling students and students with dyslexia and learning disabilities to achieve success in months not years
