Many Parents Have Told Us
"We wish we had found you first".
A parent called recently and told us their daughter had been diagnosed with severe dyslexia. The parents had attacked the dyslexia with a passion. They had tried a phonics-based program and a processing speed problem with little success.
Then we asked the parent....
Does your child:
- Learn best when they see and experience information?
- Skip words and lines when reading?
- Have difficulty paying attention, especially during long tests
- Suffer from situational anxiety or test anxiety?
The answer was yes to each of the questions. Like many students with severe dyslexia, this student had dyslexia (a problem with words), a tracking issue, an attention issue, and was often frustrated.
If this describes your child, there is a good chance they are a hands-on learner, with 1 or more challenges. At 3D Learner, we capitalize on the hands-on learners strengths, identify and address their challenges, and our goal is to
Transform Stress into Outrageous Success
Many parents who go to psychologists are directed to phonics-based programs. These are good programs, but:
- They do not teach the way a hands-on learner learns and do not always provide the foundational skills your child will need to improve their reading comprehension, love of reading and to address their math skills
- The visual tracking issues are often missed, but when they are discovered, one is often directed towards vision therapy -- that can be expensive, and not address the whole challenge
- If ADHD is identified as an issue, then either medication and/or counseling is recommended. Both options worth considering, but there may be better options like the Interactive Metronome (R) and Brain Gym (R)
- Anxiety may again be addressed with medication and/or counseling, but there are options worth considering -- like Biofeedback
What Makes 3D Learner So Effective at Improving
Reading Comprehension, Math, Writing and So Much More
My name is Mira Halpert. I have a Masters in Education from the University of Michigan and have great respect for psychologists like Dr. Linda Silverman, from the Gifted Development Center, Dr. Jacky Valdes, whose office is in Hollywood, FL and Dr. Gary Eisenberg whose office is in Boca Raton.
Since 1997, we have worked with over 2000 students, who: often learn differently; who have some combination of tracking, attention, anxiety and working memory issues; and whose parents want to make the difference.
Rather than assess for a label -- we use a combination of tools to assess:
- How a student learns best
- Whether a student has a tracking, attention, anxiety or working memory challenge
- Tests for present level of reading comprehension
and our assessment is much more affordable and will provide a set of program options.
Our program is not for everyone, but over and over again I have heard, "I wish we had found you first" -- especially from parents who have been to multiple psychologists, programs, doctors, and tutors. Which is exactly what we did, before I discovered a better way to help my son and daughter.
With the 3D Learner, I helped my:
- Then high school daughter to go improve her reading comprehension 4.2 grade levels in 7 months -- Julie is now a Nationally Board Certified teacher, having earned her Masters in Education from the University of Florida
- 3rd grade son Michael to go from the 31st to the 74th percentile. Michael graduated with over a 3 point from FIU and is now Co-Director of 3D Learner Sports Performance
- Many of our students have gained 2, 3, 4 and even 5 years in their reading comprehension, done very well on the FCAT and SATS, and not needed on-going support.
Rather than working on words or concepts through the "drill and kill" approach, we work in clay. This allows our students to really visualize the word, the meaning and what the questions ask. We focus on improving reading comprehension and the love of learning.
We assess for and address attention, anxiety and visual processing issues. W realize that only a fraction of our students have ADHD, a significant anxiety issue or a visual processing issue that would require medical intervention, but we do know that virtually every child would benefit from:
- Improved attention. We use the Interactive Metronome (R) and Brain Gym (R) exercises that work well whether your child has ADHD or not.
- Learning how to be calmer, more confident and able to rebound when they hit something they do not understand. We have had 3rd graders whose heart rate increased from 80 or 90 to 140 and in one case 150, when we just mentioned the word FCAT - can you imagine what their heart rate goes to before and during the 3rd Grade FCAT.
- Improved visual tracking. Skipping words and lines when reading often happens, and it gets much worse with visual fatigue that can often happen with a 70 minute test.
