Is Your Child a Right-Brained Learner?
Does your child:
- Remember places they have visited, even from years ago?
- Remember details from movies, even if they missed the plot?
- Learn best when they see and experience information?
- Struggle with reading comprehension, putting thoughts on paper and/or math word problems?
- Baffle you because of their strengths in certain areas and struggles with reading, writing and/or math?
If this fits your child, there is a good chance you have a right-brained learner who would benefit from both a right-brained assessment and a right-brained program.
What you should know about right-brained learners:
1- Edison, Einstein, Disney, Richard Branson (Virgin Records) and Charles Schwab were or are right-brained learners -- a high class problem.
2- Some experts will say it will take 1 to 3 years to help these kids -- we havve found significant progress can be made in 4 months for bright right-brained learners.
3- Some experts will focus on phonics -- even if this is not the way your child learns best.
4- Too often the problem is diagnosed as a Central Auditory Processing, Visual Tracking or Attention issue (ADHD) -- when in fact the correct diagnosis may include:
- A smart child who learns best when seeing and experiencing information - that is they are a right-brained learner
- A tracking issue -- where your child may skip words or lines when reading - a tracking problem is present in over 70% of our bright right-brained learners.
- A processing speed issue -- for the right-brained learner who thinks in pictures; they often take longer to process information. Think back to the 56k modems, where it took no time to download a word document and much longer to download a video file.
5- Too often parents are told to work harder, try a tutor, go to a learning center, go to an optometrist, or accept reality -- when what you may want is a right-brained specialist, who:
- Has the relevant parenting and professional expertise and successes.
- Understands that your child is unique and programs should be tailored to your child's needs.
- Looks at the whole child and has an integrated approach that leads to significant progress and helps your child and you.
- Respects your need to understand your child from a different and far more empowering perspective.
We are Mira and Mark Halpert. Mira, who has her Masters in Education from the University of Michigan, is the mastermind behind the 3D Learner Program(R).
We have four kids -- two of whom are right-brained learners and the 3D Learner Program (R) was developed to help them.
With the original 3D Learner Program, Julie, the "Original 3D Learner" improved her comprehension 4.2 grade levels in 7 months, went on to get her Masters Degree in Education from the University of Florida, and is now a Nationally Certified Teacher teaching gifted 3rd graders.
What surprises us the most is how many bright & even gifted students struggle - despite coming from the best families, going to excellent schools, and having their parents try multiple interventions and spending hundreds if not thousands of hours trying to help.
We have since had over 1200 students with many successes.
1) We have helped elementary school students to make 2, 3 and even 4-year gains in their reading within 4 months, with solid results in 1st grade and excellent results in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Three examples:
- A 2nd grader who went from the 18th to the 83rd percentile within a year and became an A student in Honors classes in middle school
- A 3rd grader who went from the lowest reading group in 3rd grade to the best reader in her 4th grade class - and last year had a 3.96 GPA in 9th grade
- A 5th grader who went from the 48th to the 95th percentile and now is entering college
2) We have helped middle and high schoolers, including:
- Helping a C- student in 6th grade become an A- student, and have her be an A student in high school
- Helping an 8th grader improve his reading and math 4.5 and 6 grade levels in 6 months, and get into a prestigious high school
- Helping a 10th grader improve his reading comprehension 5 grade levels within 4 months
I recognize that a smart struggling child can cause:
- A disagreement between parents - are they lazy, unmotivated, or ...
- Tremendous stress as phonics-based programs, ADHD medication and learning centers are tried, often with marginal benefit.
- Conversations with professionals who really do understand their profession, but do not seem to deal with the whole child or help you to help your child.
- A strained relationship with schools, even though the school and you are doing everything you can to help.
I am a mom on a mission to help moms, dads, grandparents and other interested parties to recognize our children's strengths and challenges, and to help them to be all they can be.
