The University of Buffalo has published a very good summary on the Benefits of Behavior Modification vs ADHD Drugs (i.e. Attention Deficit Disorder)
The MTA Study on ADHD Medication (ADD Medication) does bring into question the value of ADHD drugs over the long term.
We have always seen great value in behavior modification and behavior plans (i.e. communicating with students in a way that encourages appropriate behaviors and focuses on reducing and eliminating inappropriate behaviors)
We believe that tools like the Interactive Metronome, Brain Gym and Biofeedback teach the child new skills that improve:
- Attention and self-control
- Reading fluency
- Left and right-brain integration
- The student's ability to stay calm
While ADHD medication may offer short term benefits -- we encourage parents to leverage behavior modification and tools like the Interactive Metronome, Brain Gym and Biofeedback
