For Frustrated Parents with Smart Struggling Child

My name is Mira Halpert.  I have a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Michigan.  I have four great kids.  Two of them excelled in school; the other two were equally bright, but they struggled with reading comprehension.

For 7 years we struggled.  Psychologists used labels like Dyslexia, a Learning Disability and ADHD -- and they recommended tutors, phonics-based programs and learning centers.

None of them worked well.  Mark and I were both incredibly frustrated.

In 8th grade, my daughter Julie was told she was not college material and I became

A mom on a mission!!!

I was not interested in labels; my focus was on how Julie could succeed.

Then I discovered she learned differently. She learns best when she sees and experiences information -- like 62% of the kids in school today.

With what has become known as the 3D Learner Program ®, Julie improved her reading comprehension 4.2 grade levels in 7 months. (Teachers said it could not be done!) Since 1997, we have helped thousands of students and their parents succeed.

What drives me is:

-       The statistics are staggering about how many smart kids continue to struggle, often through high school and beyond.  We know in 1st grade what the issues are.

Consider that almost 90% of the 1st graders with a word identification issue are still poor readers in 4th grade.

-       Over 70% of the 3rd graders with a reading disability will still have a reading disability in 12th grade. These statistics are ALARMING and schools are fundamentally not winning this battle!

-       I have seen these smart struggling kids in all kinds of families  -- famous people, incredibly successful entrepreneurs, architects, pilots and other occupations dominated by visual and creative people,  Right-brained learners are also identified with  creative moms and those children that are adopted and  in foster care.

-       Once parents realize their child learns differently and how this impacts reading comprehension, spelling, memory, ability to do math word problems, writing and virtually every aspect of life -- it opens up a far better way to teach them that often. This can lead to faster and more dramatic gains.

-       When parents realize that attention, tracking and anxiety are much more prevalent in this population and that all these issues can now be tested for and addressed naturally and effectively -- they tend to ACT

-       When you recognize your child learns differently, it allows both parents to look at the situation from a shared perspective, that allows you to work together more effectively
