Need to Address Learning Differences and Challenges

Mom and dad had done their job.  They had gotten a diagnosis of Dyslexia, a Learning Disability and ADHD, they had gone to the school, they had gotten an IEP, an Individualized Education Plan, their son had gotten extra help and extra time, they had done extra tutoring outside of school and their child had still failed the 3rd Grade FCAT – and retention was required.

Where had they gone wrong?

First, the parents deserve credit for doing all the things a parent could be expected to do.

What had they missed?

-  Their son learned differently and needed a more hands-on approach

-  They son skipped words and lines when reading – a tracking issue – but the vision test at school missed it

-  Their son had ADHD but did not respond well to ADHD medication – no one told then there were really good options like the Interactive Metronome ® and Brain Gym ®

-   Thier son suffered from test anxiety and they were not aware of options like biofeedback that help a child relax and to recover from stress

Learning differences, tracking issues, attention challenges and test anxiety are present close to 75% of the students we see who are struggling with the 3rd Grade FCAT Program.  If your child:

-  Learns best when they see and experience information – a sign of a learning difference

-  Skips words and lines when reading – a sign of a tracking issue

-  Has difficulty paying attention to that which is boring or frustration –an attention issue

-  Has test anxiety

You want to capitalize on their learning differences and identify and address the other challenges.
